Treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia with intravenous injection of adenosine triphosphate.

چکیده
Intravenous adenosine triphosphate rapidly terminated all 11 episodes of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia in 10 patients. Eight patients reported side effects but these resolved within 20 seconds and did not require treatment. Adenosine triphosphate is a suitable agent for the rapid termination of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.

AVNRT, (Atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia), atrial tachycardia and atrial flutter are 3 kinds of supraventricular tachycardia, which their mechanism are explained based on reentry. A 60-years-old man is presented with all of the above-mentioned arrhythmias, responsive to intravenous injection of adenosine. Radiofrequency ablation of the slow pathway territories cured all of them. There...
متن کاملRepetitive sinoatrial exit block as the major mechanism of drug-provoked long sinus or atrial pause.
Prolonged sinus or atrial pause occurred in six patients with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia after drug administration. All six patients had normal sinus node function during control electrophysiologic study; the sinus cycle length ranged from 510 to 900 ms (mean 743 +/- 141) and the longest sinus node recovery time ranged from 800 to 1,230 ms (mean 1,018 +/- 168). A long sinus or atri...
متن کاملTreatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia in infancy with digitalis, adenosine-5'-triphosphate, and verapamil: a comparative study.
The treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) in infancy with digitalis, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and verapamil is reported. Treatment was successful in about 90% of the patients treated with ATP and verapamil and in 61--71% of the patients treated with digitalis (Lanatoside C). Verapamil terminated the tachycardia within 2 minutes of administration in most instances and A...
متن کاملAdenosine: novel antiarrhythmic therapy for supraventricular tachycardia.
Adenosine (Adenocard) is a unique new agent for the acute treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT). Administered by intravenous bolus, it has an onset and duration measured in seconds and greater than 90% efficacy. Its primary effect is to slow atrioventricular nodal conduction, thus converting reentrant forms of PSVT to normal sinus rhythm. Side effects quickly dissipate wit...
متن کاملComparing the efficacy of intravenous adenosine and verapamil in termination of acute paroxysmal supra ventricular tachycardia.
BACKGROUND Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) has always been a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the cardiologists. There are many modalities to treat the problem. Of the available pharmacological treatment, the role of verapamil and adenosine is under debate. This study was carried out to detect and compare the efficacy of both drugs. The objective of this study was to comp...
